'Quake City' and 'Rock On!'

Last Tuesday we traveled by bus to the inner city to experience the science behind earthquakes at 'Quake City' and then walked to the Canterbury Museum to 'Rock On' and learnt about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. This was part of our geology based inquiry called 'Rocks Talk' which is all about land formations and their causes. It was extremely informative and interesting. We really enjoyed ourselves and the learning!

  3. That trip was awesome! It was so much fun to learn about rocks and earthquakes! It was interesting seeing how Diamonds can be made out of TREES! I loved seeing what the rocks were they were either metamorphic, sedimentary or igneous. Lots of our groups were metamorphic, I think. Ohhh how I wish I could do it again! So cool!

  5. That rock on trip was really amazing not only because we got to leave the school ;) but also because it taught me a LOT and was extremely fun and interesting! My most favorite part was the amethyst but that's just because I'm crazy about the color purple!!! ;).

Awesome trip and thanks again for the hard work that you put into it.

  7. I loved the trip, especially learning about the rocks like how it is made what type of rocks are there and much more.I remember when we got into groups and we had to find out which rocks are in those 3 groups which are metamorphic, sedimentary and igneous. In our class we got some rocks and we tested them like if it could be scratched by a nail or coin and we had to record it, also we got some vinegar and we put some on the top of the rock to see the reaction. That was REALLY FUN!!!hopefully we can do something like that again.
