Fly Me Up To Where You Are

The day we (Room 3 children) made flags for a mass art installation for Christchurch...
"NZ artist Tiffany Singh, assisted by volunteers, will work in schools to develop a huge cluster of flags created by the children, expressing their hopes and dreams - one flag for themselves and one for the city of Christchurch. The flags will be stitched into strings in the manner of Tibetan prayer flags, with designs by the students interspersed with designs by the artist. The flags will then form a mass installation of colour and hope in the central city - close to the festival venue on the edge of the Arts Centre.
What are the hopes and dreams of our children? What are their concerns for the future? Art has long been a vehicle across cultures for expressing people's dreams and prayers.  Tiffany Singh has developed a work that will extend its reach out into the communities of Christchurch, to collect and share these hopes and dreams in this large-scale public artwork.
Help us bring fresh heart and soul to Christchurch.
Festival director Philip Tremewan. says "You will love this large-scale community art-work which involves 2,000 Christchurch kids.  You will get huge satisfaction from seeing what it means to the students as they each make a flag to express their hopes and dreams for the future."

Room 3 children took part in a workshop on the last Friday of Term 2 and created flags based on their own hopes and dreams. Their flags will become part of the mass installation in Christchurch!
Please look at the photos of them creating these flags below.
