'Clued Up Campers!'

We began the year with a hiss and a roar! In Week 3, we are traveling to the Mt Hutt Retreat so we have started getting prepared! On day one of the new year at school, we had some first aid training with St John's. We learnt about how to deal with different issues, all the way from cuts and bruises to hypothermia!

We practised stopping bleeding and wrapping a wound with a bandage as well as putting our partner's arm in a sling. Another highly necessary piece of information we learnt was how to respond to an emergency situation using the Dr.s ABC.

Danger - check if the situation is dangerous for yourself as you don't want to get hurt as well.
Response - check to see they respond to you by calling to them or tapping them.
Send for help - dial 111.
Airways - push up the person's chin so it's easy for them to breathe. This will also lift their tongue off their airway.
Breathing - put your ear to their mouth and look to see if their chest is rising.

CPR - if they are not breathing, perform CPR.
