Our collaborative mural

Our collaborative mural is part of belonging in Room 3.  

There is more to come, but this is the centre...

We are spending time, getting know each other, learning to work together, and forming a healthy and positive class culture we can thrive in for the rest of the year!

To collaborate, we had to work with children who had the pieces of the mural surrounding our piece.

We had to make sure the lines matched up.

We had to rework and rework until we had it right.

We needed to sit, side by side and discuss and compare.

We needed to be patient.

We needed to communicate.

It wasn't easy but it was worth persevering...

Cheese Scones and Milo

We made cheese scones and drank milo with marshmallows to 
celebrate all of our efforts and the end of term! The cheese scones were piping hot and delicious with a dash of butter...

 

Bird Nest Stem Challenge - Reflection

Today we tested out our nests with 3 boiled eggs. Each team had to hold their nest on each side without supporting the base to see if the nest could hold the eggs. 

Before our design test, we discussed what a successful nest would be from a bird's perspective.

This is what we came up with.

After that, we tested each nest with the 3 eggs. We talked about the strengths and weaknesses of each design. It was really interesting. Alot of people decided that if they were to do things differently, they would make their nests deeper to protect from predators and to keep the chicks warm. The shape of the nest was also important. It was noted that with some of the oblong shaped nests, the mother bird would have to hop from egg to egg to incubate them because they were not clustered together. Great observation!

Bird Nest Stem Challenge

We here in Room 3 are finding out what makes a great team and what kinds of skills and qualities are needed to be good team member.

Today, we were given the challenge of making a bird's nest in teams using only natural, fallen materials that we could find outside. The nest needed to fit 3 eggs inside it. We found twigs, leaves, grass, cabbages leaves, conker shells and of course...mud.

Despite using a variety of similar materials, our nests look remarkably different. Tomorrow we are going to test them based on a criteria we come up with, using real eggs. We will also reflect on our team work.
