STEAM Challenge

Our challenge is to create a symmetrical picture using radial symmetry and our creativity using paper and dividing our square into fractions.

However, the challenge is slightly more challenging! We need to use 3 different origami folds which can be used as they are, or, modified to create a different shape.

Here we are engaged in the process! Final creations coming soon...

We belong!

We all live in New Zealand. But, there is much more to us. We are also part of other cultures.

Our collaborative mural

Our collaborative mural is part of belonging in Room 3.
There is more to come, but this is the centre...

We are spending time, getting know each other, learning to work together, and forming a healthy and positive class culture we can thrive in for the rest of the year!

To collaborate, we had to work with children who had the pieces of the mural surrounding our piece.

We had to make sure the lines matched up.
We had to rework and rework until we had it right.
We needed to sit, side by side and discuss and compare.
We needed to be patient.
We needed to communicate.

It wasn't easy but it was worth persevering...

An experiment in colour

Our learning was to experiment with colour using the medium of pastels to create a 'mood' for each of the four seasons. We had to design the silhouette of a tree that could be imaginary, abstract or realistic. Look at the wide variety of trees and techniques we came up with as a result of our experimentation!

Meaningful words...

Room 3 have been answering one of their big questions this term; "What's my story?"

We have looked at the patterns, colours and shapes of our cultures, what we value, thought about who we are and what kind of personality we have, looked at our motivations and passions and thought of words that are important to us and our culture.

Our BEAUTIFUL Irises...(and last post for the year)

If you've looked at our blog, you will know we have been doing observational drawings. We have finally finished our beautiful purple and yellow irises! They are all stunning and unique. We worked so hard to look at the shape, colours, textures, shades and tones. We are going to give our paintings to someone we love for Christmas.
