From the perspective of a Kumara leaf

The Life Of A Kumara Leaf

It all started with the seed, the seed is the beginning of everything. The seed got planted in the earth, my home. Water. Sun. Nutrients. A plant begins to form and I begin to grow along with my brothers and sisters. Roots dig in to the earth and begin new kumaras, while we stay on top to find things to climb. After all, we are climbers. Life goes on and I begin to wither. I am now only a crisp, brown leaf with a speck of pale green. The roots below have almost finished their job and new leaves are already born. It’s time. I watch from where I have fallen as my forever cared for plant gets picked and harvested. Then the roots the kumaras have formed get eaten. New seeds are planted and new plants begin to form. After that, I get snatched away by the breeze.

The Black Death Investigation

Detective for a day!

Monday 23rd september 2013
Today room three did an investigation on the black death. What we did was Miss Cocks put out evidence boxes, numbers 1,2,3,4,5 and 6. In each box there were things that people in the middle ages thought would cure the black death. Some boxes had food, animals such as chickens and frogs, prayers, church bells, black and yellow bile, phlegm and even whips. Then we got investigation charts that had the box numbers on them, then we wrote what was in the boxes, and wrote how we thought they would cure the black death, and why the middle ages people thought these things would have cured the black death. I thought the cures were very weird  and some were yucky.

Calendar Art

Room 3s Calender Art

Alice

First, we found a picture of a bird we liked and practiced drawing in in our art books.
When we were happy with our design, we traced it onto good paper. Some of us practiced dying our birds and some of us started practicing our background. With our birds, we had to blend the colours together. Some of us practiced our birds a lot and some of us didn't really need to practice at all. With our background, most of us only did one colour and the rest of us did two. We dyed our backgrounds with sponges and we flicked pure dye with mini paintbrushes. With our backgrounds, most of us bleached them by flicking bleach onto the backgrounds.

Book Week - Dress Up Day

Today was book day. We had to dress up as a book character from one of our favorite books. Some of us dressed up as characters from picture books and some dressed as people dressed from chapter books. Some of the characters were Pippy Long-stockings, Nancy Drew, Little Red Riding Hood, Mary and Happy Feet. After morning tea all the classes lined up for the book parade around the university drive. Every one had such cool costumes so Miss Cocks took pictures of the people that had dressed up in Room 3.
